In Dunedin and the rain has not really let up - so we decided to check out the downtown and Sean was thrilled to see that there was a brewery tour at the Speight' Brewery - the oldest brewery in New Zealand. The tours was great and was lead by a fellow Canadian from Halifax.

We then headed out onto the Dunedin Peninsula, on once again windy and narrow roads, to "The Penguin Place". That is right we were going to see penguins in the wild. It was an amazing experience for all of us - we got within a foot of a yellow eyed penguin- they did not see us as we were in these trenches that this wildlife reserve has created (kade loved it because he figured it was just like the army trenches). This particular breed of penguin is actually anti-social not like all other penguins and we had to be really quiet so we did not scare them away. We also got a close up visit with the only baby penguin that survived this year.

A yellow eyed penguin - our guide said that our tour had the best viewing in the past 10 weeks - we were an all Canadian group - must be why! |

Here are some more scenery pictures - the landscapes in New Zealand are so different - you never know what to expect around a corner!
Being the Rennies, we had to fit in a couple more things today, so we headed back into Dunedin and got a ice cream at the Rob Roy Dairy - the busiest ice cream store in New Zealand - we now know why as they were the biggest, cheapest and best we have ever had! We then made our way up the "World's Steepest Street" even steeper than San Francisco - Baldwin Street.

Wow that steep street looks crazy! Such cool landscape everywhere! REally enjoying following along on your adventure. Miss you all lots!
