Well here it is our blog for our 2014 adventure - the adventure down under in Australia. We, Sean, Krystin, Matthew and Kade Rennie, are heading to Australia for a year. The adventure starts before we actually get to where we will live. We are heading to New Zealand on Christmas day for a little family vacation then off to the east coast of Australia before settling in Falcon in Western Australia. We will be about an hour south of Perth on the Indian Ocean. So stay tuned as we plan to post often to keep our family and friends up to date on our adventure.

The South Island....

On route to Wellington with a couple of stops along the way.  The first being Huka falls – 200,000 litres of water plunge 9 metres over the great rock face of the Huka fall every second – enough to fill 5 Olympic pools every minute – impressive!!!!! We then made a quick stop at a Military museum – Kade was thrilled. There were real tanks and the boys loved climbing all over them.

We stayed in a hotel in Wellington that was up from the water and had a great view. It felt like we were in a European city with all the buildings on the side of the hills. We caught the Interislander ferry to Picton early the next morning.  It was a little cool (not -29 though!).  The landscape was amazing – fjords coming into Picton were spectacular!

It was a windy ride - check out Kade's hair!
That is what our ferry looked like.

We travelled across the south Island to the west coast – through various landscapes including mountain ranges, plains and beside rivers on very curvy roads and ended at the Tasman Sea in Greymouth – spent the evening at the beach searching for rocks and waiting for the sunset.

The beach in Greymouth - it was actually really wavy.

Heading out tomorrow to see a glacier – really looking forward to that.

  1. Thomas was excited to see Kade wearing the bear t shirt! It looks so beautiful - we just watched the Hobbit - and we were all jealous that you are where it was filmed! Gorgeous!
